Stasia turned in grateful surprise to see two beautiful girls entering the kitchen, one on the heels of the other. They looked reminiscent of one another. They must be sisters. The older one looked to be about her own age. She sighed with relief. This whole evening had suddenly become easier.
Yoongi turned towards her. “Julieta, this is my friend, Stasia. I met her through the postal service.”
“The postal service?” Tia piped up.
Yoongi nodded, his lips sealed.
Stasia smiled. “He means I wrote him a letter.”
“Three, to be exact,” Yoongi commented.
“Oh-ho! Are you an ARMY?” Jimin asked, smiling sideways at her.
She nodded. Hobi, Namjoon, Jungkook, and Tae all looked quizzically at each other. Why was Yoongi bringing an ARMY he had just met into their humble abode? And he had met her after she’d written him only three letters?
Yoongi was known for reading fan mail. Even for answering it from time to time. But to actually meet this girl? This was highly strange. And what about his odd VLIVE presented entirely in halting English the other night? And he had written a song entirely in English for someone. Suddenly, the four of them knew he had written it for this girl.
Jungkook recalled the lyrics. Something about her being in danger. Yoongi had beckoned her to find him. To come to him. To give him her name. And address. Because of some mad mess. Instantly, Jungkook’s discerning heart broke. He stared at the pretty girl who was clearly not Korean. What was breaking her heart? Why had Yoongi trusted her enough to bring her to meet all of them?
Curiosity piqued, the six remaining guys looked at each other. Tia broke the ice.
“It’s nice to meet you, Stasia. I’m Tia.”
“Hi, Tia,” Stasia murmured quietly.
“And I’m Julieta,” continued Tia’s sister.
Then the guys, prompted by the friendly girls, all introduced themselves. Beginning with Jin and Tae.
“Hello, Stasia. I’m Jin,” he grinned at her.
“And I’m Tae.” He revealed his famous boxy grin, and Stasia began to relax. She felt like she knew these boys from the countless hours of videos she’d watched.
“I’m Hobi.” His sunny smile showed itself.
“I’m Jimin.” He gave her his best sultry look.
Yoongi growled at him.
“It’s nice to meet you, Stasia. I’m Namjoon.” He walked over and shook her hand.
Jungkook gave her a shy smile. “I’m Jungkook.” His hand passed through the air near his face in a half-wave of sorts welcoming her into their abode.
“Well,” Jin suddenly drew them all in. “Who’s hungry? Shall we sit down and eat before it all gets cold?”
“Or warm.” Jungkook was thinking of kimchi.
Stasia smiled at him. She ended up sitting down between him and Yoongi. Julieta and Tia sat across from them next to Jin and Tae. Stasia studied them curiously. Was Julieta Jin’s girlfriend? Then Tia glanced at Tae. Their eyes met, and a flame seemed to leap between them. Clearly, Tia was Tae’s girlfriend. Suddenly, Stasia felt really privileged. Yoongi was trusting her with a lot. All of them were.
Then she remembered how much she had trusted to Yoongi. And she understood his faith in her. She was truly touched. After months of making barely any progress in the acquiring-friends department, she had been welcomed with open arms into the circle of BTS and their girlfriends.
Then, Yoongi’s strategy suddenly became obvious to her. He wanted to tell his friends about the worst thing – the most private and devastating thing – she had ever experienced. But first, he was unveiling their secrets to her. So she would know that she wasn’t the only vulnerable one here. Her heart melted. She reached out under the table and found Yoongi’s hand. She closed her fingers around it and squeezed. He looked over at her, and she smiled tremulously at him. He could see gratefulness shining in her eyes. He returned her smile.
Oh, yeah. Yoongi was in trouble.
Jungkook grinned. Yoongi was the last to fall. If he hadn’t fallen yet, he was close. Jungkook felt an immense respect for Yoongi, so in that precious moment as he saw the secret smile Yoongi shared with Stasia, Jungkook released a prayer for their happiness. Yoongi deserved to find some joy in this world. Jungkook hoped that Stasia was the one who could provide it.
